Serious Mac Crash
This is a kernel panic on a Mac. I guess it's too messed up to even display the grey "Restart" message.

OS X Leopard (10.5)
Apple's latest OS is out - here's what we think:
Leopard comes with over 300 new features, YAY!!! Our faves are stacks, time machine, and spaces. iUse a mac, but iWon't say anything about torrents cos they're iLegal. Say no more, say no more... anyway, iWan't Leopard, but iDon't have the iDough.
- rot13srynznfyra
Leopard seems to be a good upgrade if you have the money for it. I know a few people who will be searching for torrents ... iWon't because iDon't have aMac. And my internet speed is crappy (no, not dialup, just rather slow broadband). I don't torrent anyway. The "Stacks" feature looks like a nice improvement, and all in all, it looks like a solid upgrade.

Vista Test Drive
OK, vista sucks. Pretty much everyone knows, apart from the n00bs...
But have you ever wanted to try it and see if it really does suck?
If you're on Windoze anyway have a look at www.windowsvistatestdrive.com in Internet Exposer. It installs a Microsoft ActiveX control and logs you on to a Vista virtual machine, courtesy of "Windows Live Virtual Labs". Then you can see just how much it sucks.

UNIX and windows
I was reading a book about UNIX from the library (as usual reading a programming book when i am board) and i decided to try the equivalent (DOS) out on windows.
First you go to run and type "cmd".
^ Like this
...And click OK
then type "help"
which will give you:
press enter for the --more-- command to display the next line of text.
Have a play around and see what you can do.
douse this mean that windows kinda has a terminal like thingy? Maybe not it is a command prompt but still similar

Lynx
Fact: GUIs (Graphical User Interfaces) are bad for geeks. The full-on GUIs of web browsers like Mozilla Firefox can be dangerous at times, + big on the memory req.s. So that's why there's lynx for linux. It's a very simple web browser that runs in - guess what? - the terminal. So now you can browse the web with 128k of RAM. Great!

VMware campaign
Who wants to start a little campaign to get the developers of VMware to make a PPC-inside-PPC vmware package?
Fire
I use Mac OS X, and until recently I was forced to use M$ messenger for IM. But just now I switched to Fire, an alternative. Note that if you click that link it will automatically start the download from sourceforge.net. I'll give reviews later on, when I've used it and found bugs. I hope to stop using ANY Micro$oft software in the near future! (only got M$ office and M$ VPC to go!)

4oD
4oD is the UK Channel 4's On Demand TV show download manager.
It sucks.
Reasons to use:
You can watch TV shows
Reasons to avoid:
Uses an incredibly slow IE shell, looks like HTA.
Flash + IE = :(
Intergrates Windows Media Player
Is insecure - Runs an IE shell in the background.

Applemist
Apple is fading away, fast! BTW, I'd give 1000 points to anyone that can guess how I got this picture. Clue: I used photoshop to change it to Black & White and change the brightness/contrast levels. You've got to work out what I took to get it.

If you use Ubuntu, you might want to check out Getdeb, a site like packages.ubuntu.com. You might even want to add it to your repositories file, if you enjoy a bit of hacking and don't mind potentially mucking up your system.

Ubuntu 7.10 Beta Review
Ubuntu 7.10: Gutsy Gibbon
The install went OK, after a couple of tries - VMware problems?
Startup hasn't changed very much. No splash?
The default desktop. There's a Deskbar by default and a new user switcher.
There's a new settings manager - "Appearance". Looks like Vista.
The Themes manager, similar style...
Firefox, without the latest update.
The new Places menu.
New default Home folders
The stripped-down version of Synaptic seems to have been improved.
Asking for a password...
Synaptic itself seems to have no obvious improvements.
The User switcher seems similar to the one in OSX...
Shutdown options!
Final shutdown.
Ubuntu 7.10 looks like it is going to be a brilliant upgrade.

Some alternatives
MICROSOFT. Because you have no choice. MUA HA HA HA HA!!!
But is it? NO. If you bought a PC and the windows OS is annoying the sh*t outta you, there are plenty of alternative OSes, most notably linux. Our fave distro (although you get plenty of others) is Ubuntu, who's slogan is "Linux for human beings". This is because Linux used to be an OS that only geeks could use, but now it is very easy to configure/use it even if you have limited technical knowledge, and there's even a forum for getting answers to your problems with ubuntu. The word "Ubuntu" is an ancient african word that means 'Humanity to others'. And linux is free, so no more 30 day free trials, activating, and the like. And its not just free as in beer, its free as in speech, so anyone can get access to the source code and edit it themselves, free of charge. More of this in the GPL general public license. Another point: If you switch to linux, you can safely say that you won't get viruses. This is because for every Linux computer there are 1,000,000 windows computers. A virus maker's not going to make linux viruses if there are 1,000,000 times the amount of windows machines.
So no more of that stupid Operating System, Microsoft Window$!!!
NOTE: Ubuntu, unfortunately, is only an option for people with a reasonable amount of computer knowledge. (mal)

Debian and its crap
I'm not dissing the Debian GNU/Linux OS in any way whatsoever, but I am going to say that it must have a lot of crap on it, as the full set requires 21 CDs!!! Even Ubuntu (highly recommended for the newbie linux user) is just small enough to fit on a 700MB CD, which includes cool apps such as the GIMP image editor, lots of games, and stuff.
